In August 2017 Bill Nye had enough an decided to sue Disney for suppressing twenty-eight million dollars of profits for which he earned when he hosted the show, “Bill Nye the Science Guy”, from 1993 to 1998. Bill has spent the last decade assessing the financial statements of the show with his attorney after he received a charge of five hundred thousand dollars from Disney for an “accounting error” in 2008.
Bill Nye then hired an auditor in 2013 to inspect these statements but Disney either withheld the documents or didn’t proceed going through to producing them. Since
Disney acclaimed they were “backlogged with audits”, Nye had to wait almost four years before being granted the audit documents.
Nye’s auditor came to a conclusion that Disney owes Nye around nine million dollars. The auditor discovered that Disney intentionally “applied the wrong rates for distribution fees, improperly deducting foreign taxes, and mischaracterizing revenues”. Nye’s lawsuit claims that Disney owes Bill Nye and his show runners twenty-eight million dollars.
